A TXT record, as the abbreviation indicates, is a record, which holds info in human-readable form and not code. It can be created for a domain or a subdomain for a number of purposes. Search engines, for example, have different ways of confirming that you're the owner of a given domain name and one of them is actually by creating a TXT record with specific text which they provide and that you must use as the record value. The exact same verification method is being employed by some analytics platforms that monitor the traffic to your web sites as well. Of course, in such a case the content of the record will be read by a robot, but it will still be in human-readable form. A TXT record is also used when you enable the so-called SPF protection for your e-mails so that you can protect them from being forged. In such a case, the record contains info showing that a particular digital message is sent from a reliable and authorized mail server. You could use a TXT record for any type of other information also, like your business details, as an example.
